Day 1

Day one of our sugar fast. I tried going off sugar for a week in November, and it wasn't too bad, but then Christmas came around and I lost all control. So I decided to try a 30 day sugar fast. But this time it will be different! Because I am making Arle do it with me. O.k. not making him, he agreed. But anyway, my hardest challenge when trying to cut back on sweets is Arle. I will be doing so good and he will say "Do you want to go get yogurt?" He knows I can't refuse the original tart yogurt with mochi and pomegranate seeds. So yummy! But Saturday I had my last one for a month. Today we start! Doing pretty good so far. :) I have heard that the first week is the hardest, and then once you get it out of your system, you don't really crave it as much. We'll see.
So to define my sugar fast (mostly for my own benefit) I will not eat any desserts or sugary snacks for 30 days. Also no drinks with refined sugars or corn syrup. Smoothies only if it is a meal, not with a meal, but the entire meal. When I make smoothies I usually don't add sugar anyway, but I do like my mangoes, and they have tons of natural sugar. I will also not eat any muffins from Costco, since they are mostly giant cupcakes.
I'm also going to try to exercise more, treadmill at least 4 days a week, and yoga in the mornings. Though to be honest, I'm not as committed to the exercise portion of things. Maybe I need to sit down and figure out what I really want to do there so I can feel more ownership.

So that's me for now.

Pamela, thanks for the tip on the recipe website. I'll have to check it out. Cooking here has been kind of a nightmare. Trying to figure out what my kids and in-laws will both eat has been a HUGE challenge. So maybe some new ideas will help.
