I've also found that by having a snack between meals helps me be sensible during the meal. Some of the best snacks I've found are:
a handful of raw almonds
Sugar free jello
veggies with fat free sour cream mixed with a packet of ranch
low-fat popcorn
fruits (dried is ok, but you are getting a lot more calories so watch how much.)
When I'm having a sweet attack, I put two marshmallows on a grahm cracker, microwave for 10-15 sec. and put another on top. It's a good compromise.
Honey-wheat braided pretzels (watch portions)
Pita bread with hummus (watch portions again)
low fat pudding
low fat animal crackers
what do you have?

I tried to limit my snacks to fresh fruit or veggies. It doesn't always work because sometimes that's just not what I want. But it seems to be a good rule because that is what I think of first.
ReplyDeleteDill pickles are very low in calories, but not sweet pickles.
One thing I like to do have chips and salsa. I make my own low fat chips by baking a wheat tortilla cut into smaller pieces. (really I just heat a frying pan and cook them without oil or anything until they're crispy.) That way you still get to eat your favorite salsa with out feeling guilty about the chips. This also makes a good side dish.
ReplyDeleteI used to eat grapes (they have a lot of water in them, so they filled me up more) and one serving is a whole cup, which really is a lot. I also liked light yogurt, and when I needed something sweet, I'd eat the 100 calorie snack packs that you can find everywhere now. Some of them taste better than others, though.
